Kuala Selangor sits at the mouth of the Selangor river north-west of Kuala Lumpur, around 400 kilometres from Singapore and five to five and a half hours away. It is best known for two things: the fireflies that gather along the mangroves after dark, and the seafood along the coast. Bukit Malawati above the town adds a historical layer. Sekinchan, with its paddy fields, is close by and sits on the same rate line, which is why a good number of our bookings cover both rather than treating them as separate trips.
The fireflies are the reason most first-time visitors come, and they are an after-dark attraction — which makes arrival time a real planning question rather than an afterthought.
