Causeway vs Second Link: Which Crossing Is Best for Your Van Transfer?

If you cross between Singapore and Johor with any regularity, you already know that the choice of checkpoint can make or break the journey. Pick the wrong one at the wrong time and a quick hop turns into an hour of crawling. Here is how the Causeway and the Second Link compare for a private van transfer, and when each one comes out ahead.

The Causeway (Woodlands–JB)

The Causeway is the original crossing, linking Woodlands in Singapore to JB city centre. It is the shortest and most direct route for downtown Johor Bahru — City Square, the central hotels, the hospitals and the old town are all close once you are through. For anything in the heart of JB, it is usually the natural choice.

The trade-off is volume. The Causeway is one of the busiest land border crossings in the world, and at peak times — weekday rush hours, Friday evenings and Sunday returns — it can back up significantly. If your trip falls in those windows, the time saved by the shorter distance can be eaten up by the queue.

The Second Link (Tuas–Gelang Patah)

The Second Link runs from Tuas in the west of Singapore across to Gelang Patah in Johor. It carries far less traffic than the Causeway and is often the faster, calmer crossing — especially for destinations on the western side of the state. For Legoland, Desaru, Puteri Harbour and the resorts, it is frequently quicker even though the road distance can be a little longer.
